Mark Alexander is a seasoned real estate professional with over 30 years of experience in building attractive and thriving residential and mixed-use communities. Mr. Alexander has developed 3,000 units of housing, 75,000 square feet of neighborhood retail and office space, and numerous gardens and public art installations with a cumulative value of $500 Million Dollars. He is a founding member of Alexander Development Group (“ADG”).
Prior to forming Alexander Development Group, Mr. Alexander was a founding member and President of Urban Builders Collaborative LLC (UBC) where he created a development pipeline of 550 apartments and 30,000 square feet of retail and community facility space. Mr. Alexander started his career at Hope Community, Inc. (Hope) in Harlem, where he forged it into a leading not-for-profit community- based developer, with almost 100 staff members, a diverse real estate portfolio, and highly regarded social programs.
Mr. Alexander serves on the board of directors of several civic organizations including CIVITAS, and Citizens Housing and Planning Council. He is a past President of ANHD and board member of The New York Housing Conference. He has received several honors, including the Citizens Housing and Planning Council’s Community Service Award and Boys and Girls Harbor Salute to Achievement Award. He received his undergraduate degree from New York University and is a graduate of the Not-for-Profit Executive Management Program at Columbia University.
Ian Bierig serves as ADG’s Development Manager and is responsible for managing commercial development opportunities from conceptualization through occupancy, and for spearheading consulting assignments in support of 3rd party developers and operators. He brings particular strengths to ADG in real estate finance and modeling. Prior to joining ADG in 2011, Mr. Bierig worked at Crown Capital and Friedkin Realty Group in San Francisco, where he specialized in commercial acquisitions and asset management.
Mr. Bierig has played a key role in the development or acquisition of over 1,500 residential units in roles as a principal or acquisitions specialist. He offers experience across multiple asset classes and has consummated a diverse array of transactions throughout the country, ranging from large multifamily development in the northeast, condominium conversions, and cash flowing industrial property in California. As an asset manager Mr. Bierig has a track record of adding value to properties by identifying creative ways to maintain occupancy and increase ancillary cash flows.
Mr. Bierig holds a M.S. in Real Estate Development from Columbia University and a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a licensed California real estate broker, a member of the Urban Land Institute, and is certified in Argus DCF real estate valuation software.
Nicholas Alexander is a Development Associate at ADG responsible for extensive due diligence of potential development sites and ongoing market reconnaissance. His responsibilities at ADG also include Corporate and entity level book-keeping, basic year-end accounting services and maintaining client and vendor relations.
During his three years at ADG, Nicholas has spearheaded investor accounting, contributed to project memoranda for potential development sites, provided communication and trouble-shooting for third-party developer consulting clients, provided entitlements outreach, and contributed to the acquisition and potential build-out of development sites.
Nicholas Alexander completed his undergraduate degree at Hobart & William Smith Colleges, earning a B.A. in Urban Studies and completing minors in Economics and English.
